V	(1)  To hold under the armpit: 挾泰山以超北海 (also pr. *[jia2]) (AC) carry Tai mountain under the armpit and leap across the North Sea－obviously impossible undertaking; 挾一個書袋 carry a satchel under the arm; to carry concealed: 挾帶 [xie2dai4]↓. (2)  To carry or nurse a grudge: 挾嫌，挾恨，挾仇 [xie2xian2], [xie2hen4], [xie2chou2]↓. (3)  Carry a badge, rely on some protection or privilege: 挾貴自重 proud of being in high position; 挾長 take liberties of being an older man; 挾義誅伐 attack s.o. in the name of justice; 挾勢 [xie2shi4]↓. (4)  To rule in the name of: 挾天子以令諸侯 to give orders to the feudal princes in the name of the emperor (who existed in name only).
