Fin	Descriptive of a situation similar to Eng. “in it” or “there” at end of sentence: 心不在焉 one's mind is not in it; 有人焉 there is a man there; 其心休休焉 his mind was contented; sometimes gives a sense of completion: 名不稱焉 one's name is not known; 芻蕘者往焉 the woodcutters went (there or to him, etc.); 眾好之必察焉 if many like it, one should look into it. (Usu. unaccented as fin. part.)
Adv	(1)  (LL) how? (similar to 安): 焉能，焉可 how can? 焉得 how could? 焉用 what is the need to use? 焉知 how does one know? (2)  (AC) then (＝modn. 然後，乃): 焉能治之 (＝乃能) and then could set it in order; 焉始乘舟 and then take the boat.
