As an English language instructor,
I am very pleased to witness the growing and learning of students
in one of my general education classes -- GEE120BD Technical Communications
(First Term, 1995-96). I am particularly delighted to present their term
project titled Power Mag as a newsletter of the class. I enjoyed
teaching and learning new things with all the eighteen members:
| Pauline Au | Jimmy Chan | |
| Aileen Cheng | Mandy Cheung | |
| Bonnie Chung | Lawrence Kong | |
| Kenneth Kung | Macross Lam | |
| Angela Lau | Kevin Lay | |
| Ken Lee | Joyce Leung | |
| Ngai Chi-ho | Mango Pun | |
| Peter Tam | Thomas Tam | |
| Charlotte Woo | Michelle Yip |
There is something special about this course -- writing HTML and publishing on the World Wide Web. This is an experimental element in this term. Starting from October, 1995, students can apply for a general purpose UNIX account called "logic" account from the Computer Services Centre and put their own home pages on it. It was time-consuming and difficult to teach and learn HTML. But it is well worth the effort as reader can see in this class web page.
I would like to congratulate them all for surviving the rigorous demands of the course. Special credits must be given to the editorial team -- Lawrence, Macross and Thomas -- for their hard work. They have collected articles, held meetings after meetings, selected contributions, wrote the HTML for the class magazine, designed the layout and graphics, edited the articles again and again, and finally put it on the World Wide Web. It was a big job indeed. Tedious, hard, but educational and rewarding. Their team work has paid off. There might still be some occasional mistakes as you read along. But the overall result is a remarkable collection of students' writing on technology testifying to what they have learnt and applied in the course. In a word, they have equipped themselves with "technacy", or technological literacy, that is, literacy of the future. I am proud to present them and their work to you. As I am about to finish this document with a keyboard and a mouse, let me wish you all a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year of the Mouse.
