"The Heinemann ELT English Wordbuilder is a comprehensive vocabulary reference and practice book. The book is ¡K suitable for use in class and/or for self study. The Wordbuilder represents a vast resource of vocabulary items including collocations and idiomatic expressions not easily retrievable from a standard dictionary. The book is made up of 60 units, each focussing on one vocabulary area. Each unit starts with a reference section, showing words in context, and continues with a practice section of exercises and ideas for further written or spoken practice. The Index contains every word and phrase and an Answer Key gives answers to exercises in the practice section of each unit."
By focussing on various vocabulary areas, this book guides its readers to look into the various lexical fields of English related to the different aspects of real-life situations. Topics of the book range from sense-empirical expressions like colors, vehicles and bodily parts, through social contexts like personality, marital status and law and order, to more abstract entities like moods, probability and causality etc. The reference sections are very well organized, and the examples very carefully chosen so that the readers can grasp the meaning of the new vocabulary out of context very easily and accurately. The book can be read in any order. It is not only useful, but even enjoyable. (Tze-wan Kwan)
