This course offers a general survey of the Chinese cultural tradition in such areas as philosophy, religion, political thought, social structure, literature and art among others; its position in the modern world and its future prospects. The course, presented from the perspective of a philosophy of culture, stresses objective analysis and critical evaluation. It aims not only at providing factual information but also at stimulating theoretical understanding both of Chinese culture in particular and of the problem of culture in general.
